Meet Vincent Massey

What a Change Massey Mentoring, Inc.
To understand why I created What A Change Mentoring, I feel compelled to talk about my experience. I am a proud native of the DC Metropolitan Area. My beginnings were similar to the very men I work with.
I was raised by a single mother who did all she could to provide for me and my three siblings after our father was murdered. I unfortunately went down the wrong path, lacking guidance, support and mentorship from positive role models. Instead of thriving, I did what many young men feel they have to do to survive in the tough streets of DC.
It was during these turbulent times, where I was shot in my back, left permanently disabled, I was incarcerated for six years. This could have destroyed me but I am grateful to God that this is not how my story ended.
During my prison sentence, I met a mentor that changed my life. I was inspired to teach myself how to read and write. After my release I was asked to join a prison ministry at my church. I had my first experience and from there realized that mentoring was my calling. It was thru these experiences that I found my purpose, which is to mentor others and inspire change.
Since 2019, I have mentored over 300 individuals and was named Mentor of the Year by COSA's Faith and Community Based Mentoring program- The District of Colombia's agency that supervises individuals leaving jail and prison.
My dedication and passion about these men separate What A Change Mentoring from other organizations.
